PRODUCT DESCRIPTION The AlcoMate Premium Breathalyzer features one of the most important innovations in the breathalyzer industry - patented PRISM (Pre-calibrated Replaceable Intelligent Sensor Module) Technology. PRISM Technology provides cutting-edge alcohol sensing using the most rigorous standards of construction, durability and accuracy. Typical breathalyzers must be periodically re-calibrated by the manufacturer in order to maintain accurate readings. This is usually done by physically mailing your breathalyzer to a service center, resulting in wasted downtime. On top of that, the re-calibration procedure itself is unable to restore Day 1 accuracy, because the wear and residue buildup inside the sensor is not addressed. Instead of going through a tedious re-calibration process, PRISM Technology allows you to directly replace your old sensor module with a new one; replacement is quick and easy, and you avoid the pitfalls of mail-back re-calibration. When you decide to invest your hard-earned dollars in a breathalyzer, you can make sure your device is as accurate as Day 1 each time you install a new sensor module, only with PRISM Technology. AlcoMate breath alcohol testers are DOT approved for law enforcement accuracy, US Coast Guard cleared, and are the single-source brand for the US Navy. Sensor doesn’t last long.
Sensor has declined in a very short time. Last week I had three ounces of scotch in 2 hours and it showed 0.000 for my blood alcohol. Definitely wrong.

Not a complete warranty - Only 137 tests before sensor replacement
Even though the unit has a warranty, the sensor that comes with it does not. We only got 137 readings before it stopped giving accurate readings. The thing is, it doesn't tell you it's not working correctly, you have to deduce that by realizing that it doesn't make any sense. It's like if you were on the freeway and your speedometer read 180MPH. Well, that doesn't make sense. Same thing. Then, you pull off on a side street and it indicates 180MPH again. You wouldn't trust your speedometer anymore. The problem is most people know what 30 or 60MPH feels like, but do they know what a .03 or .06 BAC feels like? I suggest establishing that baseline. So, a new sensor will run you $30. It is good for 1 year or 200 tests then it stops working.

A very good purchase
I've found this product extremely helpful. For those of us who need to watch it closely, in the morning (on the way to work for instance , or anywhere) is critical. This little guy has been immeasurable in it's information, and I have learned a lot from it. It's not 'perfectly' accurate I'm sure, but neither are the field breathalyzers the police employ on the street. but it sure takes the guessing out of it. And yes, it can give variant readings one test after another, but it's a handheld device and meant to be a guide, not a piece of evidence. A good thing about this model- you don't need to send it in for 're-calibraton' which can take nearly 2 weeks. you simply order new sensors ahead of time, replace them yourself (super easy), with no downtime and less cost to you. I can only imagine the some of the folks posting awful reviews up here with gibberish readings- they likely had a bad/old sensor. if they paid super discount prices, that may have been why. Either way- I absolutely recommend this product if you like to drink, and operate machines, especially cars, trucks and boats. don't trust how you feel, trust the thing in your pouch that doesn't care.

great deal / same as used by the US Navy
This breathalyzer is phenomenal. I got it because my work (the world's finest Navy) started randomly breathalyzing us which sucks but it is always a little better to know in the morning if you are going to pop. This is actually the same model the Navy uses. The biggest things I have noticed is that you need to wait at least 15 minutes before your last drink to get an accurate read. I think the calibration and reads are on point. They will sometimes seem a little high but I am not convinced another breathalyzer would give a different reading - I think it is just the nature of the product. Overall, I got this for a great price and have been completely satisfied.

Very accurate!
Please read!! This device is extremely accurate. However, you can't take a shot then expect it to function properly, actually you might ruin its accuracy. Wait 10 minutes or so before using it and it'll be worth it's weight in gold. I can blow a .068, hand it to my girl and it'll blow .000, then blow again and get a .068. It works very well and I'm probably going to buy another so I can keep one in the house and not have to go to the car to see if I'm alright to drive.

Good idea
I think this is a good product and is a great idea to own one if you go out and have drinks! The one concern I have would be with any BAT you can buy; you need to wait 30 minutes after you eat or drink anything or the reading can be off. Not very practical for most casual gatherings. As a father of a three year old, I would say: BUY ONE AND DON'T DRIVE UNDER THE INFLUENCE!

That it lays more than a month
Stopped working in less than a month. need a replacement This was too expensive to only have lasted less than a month. How do I get a replacement

Reproducible results and convenient
My wife and I have owned this for a few weeks and have used it a couple dozen times. It seems very solidly made and the readings seem reasonable, given our alcohol intake, and reproducible (within about a 5% range). A suggestion that seems sensible, although not in the instructions and I can't prove its importance, is to take in a moderately deep breath, hold it for 5-10 seconds, breath slowly out and then start to breath into the breathalyzer without stopping your expiration. This would seem to best assure a reproducible measurement of an equilibrated air sample from deep in your lungs and not from the trachea, which could represent fresh air that you have just inspired.

Seems to work well.
I like that I dont have to get it calibrated. It seems like it does it's job. I have not tested it against other meters yet to see how accurate it is or it it stays accurate.
